3649063 - How to set up Batch Determination in Sales and Delivery scenario

Symptom

Batch determination is required for the Sales and Distribution process.

This article provides a brief guide on how to perform the necessary configurations.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Resolution

Master Data Setup

  1. Create Batch Characteristics (APP: Manage Characteristics)

Batch characteristics represent specific qualities that can be used to describe a batch. A batch class identifies which characteristics should be tracked as part of a batch.

  2. Create Batch Class (APP: Manage Classes)

Assign the batch characteristics to a batch class.

  3. Create Sort Sequence (APP: Create Sort Sequence)

Create a sort sequence that determines how batches with the assigned batch characteristics and batch class should be prioritized.

  4. Assign Batch Class to Material (APP: Change Material - "classification" view)

In the assignment table, add the batch class and hit enter to see the assigned batch characteristics pull in. If needed, enter default values for these characteristics here.

Configuration Setup

  1. Create Condition Tables (Configuration Activity 103956: Create Condition Tables to Determine Batches for Sales and Distribution)

Set up key combinations to define search strategies later on. You can choose pre-delivered content like tables 001-material and 002-customer/material.

  2. Create Access Sequence (Configuration Activity 101104: Define Sales and Distribution Access Sequences)

Create an access sequence and assign the condition tables in the proper sequence to describe the order in which the system should check for key combinations when looking for a search strategy.

  3. Create Strategy Type (Configuration Activity 101100: Define Sales and Distribution Strategy Types)

Create a strategy type that links the batch class and sort sequence to the access sequence, thus defining the key combinations based on which search strategies will be defined.

  4. Define Search Procedure (Configuration Activity 101101: Define Sales and Distribution Search Procedure)

Define a search procedure, which is a collection of strategy types the system should consider. There is a sequence associated so that if a batch is determined using a strategy type, the process is completed and no other strategy types are checked.

  5. Assign Search Procedure to Sales Area and Document Type (Configuration Activity 101102: Allocate SD Search Procedure/Activate Check)

Assign the search procedure to the combination of sales area (sales org, dist channel, division) and sales document relevant to the material and scenario.

  6. Activate Automatic Batch Determination for Sales Order / Delivery Item Categories (Configuration Activity 102171: Activate Automatic Batch Determination for Sales Order Item Categories / Configuration Activity 102172: Activate Automatic Batch Determination for Delivery Item Categories)

Maintain which item categories should have their batches determined automatically when either a sales order or delivery is created.

  7. Build Batch Search Strategies (APP: Manage Search Strategies - Sales and Distribution)

These search strategies determine which batch to use based on the given set of conditions.
