When performing an update (1) on an SAP HANA Cloud instance with service plan "hana-free", an error with unexpected reason is returned, although you have not increased the size:
An error occurred while attempting to update instance <GUID>: Description: invalid Parameter (memory): Memory cannot be changed for free tier instances. Free tier instances can be migrated to paid tier or deleted.
(1) An "update", meaning a configuration of the HANA Cloud instance configuration such as changing the IP allowlist, adding or removing Docstore/Computeservice, patch/version upgrades etc, using the HANA Cloud Central tool or BTP/CF CLI.
