3650862 - PDF Search Functionality Unavailable for Exported Stories with Adobe Acrobat in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

When exporting an story to PDF and opening the file in Adobe Acrobat, the search functionality does not work as expected.

• Observed Behavior:

  • Single letters (e.g., "A", "B", "D") are not found using the search feature.
  • Searches for combinations of more than two words do not return results.
  • Changing the font from "72-web" to "Arial" enables single-word searches, but does not resolve the issue for multi-word combinations.
  • The same works as expected when using MS Edge PDF reader. 

• SAP Analytics Cloud

1. Open the SAC story in Present or View mode.
2. Select the Export function.
3. Export the story to PDF using the 72-web font.
4. Open the exported PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
5. Attempt to search for single letters such as A, B, or D or combinations of two or more words.
6. Notice that in most cases it is unable to find it.

• This issue is a known limitation related to the jsPDF library and the font file used when exporting PDF files from SAP Analytics Cloud.
• As a result, certain characters and spaces are not correctly recognized by Adobe Acrobat, which impacts the search functionality. This behavior is inherent to the current technology.

As a workaround, it is recommended to open the exported PDF files using Chrome or Microsoft Edge PDF readers, where the search functionality operates as expected.
