3651656 - Batch master data can be saved even when entry-required characteristics have no values

Symptom

When you create a batch, the batch master can be saved even if the entry-required characteristic have no value. The system does not show an error but the warning "Classification of the batch is not complete, do you want to save the batch anyway?" appears.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Set the characteristic as entry-required in the Manage Characteristic app.
  2. Create a batch in the Manage Batch app and assign the characteristics to the batch.
  3. Assign no values to the entry-required characteristics .
  4. A warning message appears: "Classification of the batch is not complete."
  5. Save successfully.

Cause

This behavior is SAP standard. If a required-entry characteristic is left empty, it is possible to save the classification because the system is designed to allow the value to be maintained at a later time.

Instead of preventing the save, the system will change the status of the classification from '1' (Released) to '3' (Incomplete). The classification status can be checked in the Batch Information Cockpit app.

Resolution

Currently, whether the required-entry characteristics are empty or not will not influence the save of batch master data. This behavior is not changeable.
