Symptom
An external candidate, added as a successor in the Succession Org Chart, continues to display as an “External Candidate” even after being hired and becoming an internal employee.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Succession Management
Reproducing the Issue
-
Add an external candidate (from Recruiting) as a successor in the Succession Org Chart.

Hire the candidate into Employee Central as an internal employee.

Return to the Succession Org Chart and check the earlier nomination.

Observe that the earlier nomination still displays as “External Candidate.”
Cause
The system does not automatically remap or convert existing nominations created while the candidate was external. After the hire, new nominations reflect the employee’s updated internal status, but prior external nominations remain unchanged.
Resolution
This is the expected system behavior.
Existing external nominations are not automatically converted to internal after the hire.
To correct this, the old “external” nomination must be manually removed and the employee added again as an internal successor.
