3652092 - Error while rehiring employee: The employee already has an active employment - SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

Symptom

Error message: "The employee already has an active employment. You cannot add multiple active employments using the rehire transaction." while rehiring an employee using Accept Match or Rehire with New Employment.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Attempt to rehire an employee who is inactive.
  2. Use the rehire transaction to rehire the employee or the Accept Match. User can be coming from Recruiting or Rehire on EC. 
  3. Observe the error message: "The employee already has an active employment. You cannot add multiple active employments using the rehire transaction."

Cause

The issue occurs due to a soft purged profile tied to the Person ID External of the user being rehired. 

Resolution

  1. Access the Data Inspector tool.
  2. Navigate to 'Table_USER_ACCOUNT' and search for the 'person-id-external' of the affected user.
  3. Copy the corresponding User ID.
  4. Check the 'Table_USERS_SYSINFO' using the copied User ID to confirm the linkage.
  5. Perform a hard purge of the user ID by following these steps:
    1. Go to Data Retention Management.
    2. Select "System Identifier Purge".
    3. Click "Purge users in CSV file".
    4. Download the template and add the affected User ID.
    5. Upload the file back into the system.
    6. Submit the purge.
  6. Attempt to rehire the user again using the match functionality.
