Symptom
When importing Leave of Absence (LOA) data, the following error is encountered: "The start time and end time should be empty". The import process fails due to this error message.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central > Time Off
Reproducing the Issue
- Attempt to import Leave of Absence (LOA) record(s) for employees.
- Observe that the import fails with the error message: "The start time and end time should be empty".
Cause
- One or more users in the import file have their Time Recording Variant set as 'Duration' in their Job Information.
- If the Time Recording Variant field is not enabled or visible in Job Information, duration-based time recording is used by default. In duration-based scenarios, the start time and end time fields are not applicable, leading to the validation error when attempting to include this data.
Resolution
- This validation would be expected behaviour.
- In duration based scenarios it is an expected behaviour that start time and end time fields are not available, hence this validation error occurs when trying to update that data. This happens because for duration based scenarios, the only thing that matters is the duration of the leave and not the start/end time, as they are not applicable.
- Only if a user has their Time Recording Variant set as 'Clock Times', can you assign a start time and end time to a LOA record.
