Symptom

  • A validation warning appears on the main model structure page
  • The warning message states: "Currency conversion of unassigned members is not supported. If there are converted measures selected in filters or drill, make sure the unassigned member either has no facts, or has been filtered out."

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the main model in SAP Analytics Cloud.
  2. Select the Date dimension used for currency conversions
  3. Choose the option "book to unassigned" in the date dimension.
  4. Navigate to the model preferences.
  5. Navigate to the model preferences and select the Conversion tab
  6. Select the Date dimension in step 2 as the Date dimension for currency conversion.
  7. A warning will show the message: Currency conversion of unassigned members is not supported. If there are converted measures selected in filters or drill, make sure the unassigned member either has no facts, or has been filtered out.

Cause

If there is a currency conversion measure in a table and the fact data for the unassigned date dimension member is not filtered out, the table will fail to show and an error will be displayed.

This logically makes sense as entries in the rate table associated with currency conversion must contain a "valid from" date, but the unassigned date member has no date value associated with it to validate this date.

Since this error and the failure of the table to appear can cause confusion, we have added the warning message during model validation to make it clear that this use case is not supported.

It is therefore important if you choose to book data against the unassigned date member to either not use currency conversion in a table or filter out the unassigned member if you do.
