3654484 - Error when changing equipment category in app Manage Material Serial Numbers - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

• An error occurs when attempting to change the equipment category from one category to another in app Manage Material Serial Numbers.
• The system does not allow the change if the equipment category belongs to a different equipment reference category.
• Error message: No change possible as RefEquipCategories P and M are different.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Access app Manage Material Serial Numbers.
2. Enter serial number detail page. 
3. Click Additional Functions -> Change Equipment Category.
4. Fill in target equipment category, click Change Equipment Category.
5. Error message: No change possible as RefEquipCategories P and M are different.

• The system design does not allow changes to the equipment category when the two categories belong to different equipment reference category. This restriction is in place to prevent inconsistencies in the processing flow of the master record.
• Due to equipment category configuration activity is not exposed to users, the reference equipment category cannot be modified. See below mapping table as reference:

1. Archive the equipment with the incorrect category.
2. Create a new equipment object with the correct category.
