Symptom
This KBA describes the default sorting logic for displaying values from standard or MDF objects in the employee time sheet entry. "Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Time Sheet
- SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking
Resolution
Each item contains an external code and an external name.
In the Time Sheet, the sorting logic is as follows:
- The system sorts values by Name rather than by Code.
-
Alphabetical Sorting (A → Z)
- Within letter-based values, items are sorted alphabetically by external name (e.g., A, B, C, D...).
- Within letter-based values, items are sorted alphabetically by external name (e.g., A, B, C, D...).
- Numeric Before Alphabetic
- Numbers precede letters (e.g., "1A" is placed before "A1").
- Numbers precede letters (e.g., "1A" is placed before "A1").
- Character-by-Character Comparison
- If the first character of two external names is the same, the system compares subsequent characters to determine the order (e.g., “AA” is placed before “AB”).
- If the first character of two external names is the same, the system compares subsequent characters to determine the order (e.g., “AA” is placed before “AB”).
- If the external names of two items are identical, sorting is performed by external code (e.g., “AA (1)” comes before “AA (2)”).
- If an item’s external name is empty, the system displays the external code as the external name in the UI. However, it will not be sorted and will appear at the end of the list.
