3657180 - Warning message "this layer is hidden because your region only supports custom shapes" appears when using geomap in SAP Analytics Cloud

Symptom

  • Warning message: "This layer is hidden because your region only supports custom shapes. SAP-provided shapes will continue to be displayed for users in other regions."
  • Unable to view layers properly in stories.
  • Attempting to create a story from scratch results in the same warning message.
  • When creating a new story via remote desktop in another network, the warning does not appear, but the map does not load, and nothing is displayed.
  • Geomap shapes and colors do not appear for some users; only bubbles are visible.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) Enterprise 1.0
  • Story Design & Visualizations

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the GeoMap in SAP Analytics Cloud.
  2. Attempt to view layers in the story.
  3. Observe that geomap shapes and colors do not appear for some users, and only bubbles are displayed.

Cause

Prerequisites of Add Choropleth Layers to Geo Maps

This feature may not be available to users of SAP Analytics Cloud in certain countries. If your system is hosted in a data center within China, or you are accessing a system assigned to an SAP India customer, you can only add a choropleth layer when using SAP HANA or SAP BW data sources, if the location dimension has a custom shape. This restriction also applies when using SAP Analytics Cloud within China or India. Change the Map Region setting in your user profile to display geographical maps in a specific region.

    1. Change the "Map Region" setting in the user profile to display geographical maps in a specific region.
    2. Ensure that the data source used for the location dimension supports custom shapes, such as SAP HANA or SAP BW.
