3657190 - Character Limit for String Fields in forms - Compensation

Symptom

Clarification on the character limits for string fields in Compensation and Variable Pay worksheets, applicable to both direct entry and offline editing.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
  • SAP SuccessFactors Compensation

Resolution

Non-reportable string fields do not have a character limit. However, note that read-only fields do not support text wrapping. This means that if a read-only field contains a large amount of text, it will be displayed in full on the form without wrapping, whereas editable fields will wrap the content.

Reportable string fields have a maximum limit of 4,000 characters. If such a field is editable and exceeds this limit, the form will display an error message and prevent further editing until the issue is resolved. If the field is not editable, the system will allow it to be saved in the design worksheet, but the form will fail to launch. In this case, no error message is shown, so an enhancement request would be needed if this behavior is important for your business.

The same rules apply to offline editing. When importing data, reportable fields are limited to 4,000 characters, while non-reportable fields do not have a character limit. However, please note that when importing over 4000 characters, system will complete the job but comment will not be updated without an error message.
