Variant Management (a brief introduction)
Ref: Variant Management | SAP Help Portal
In SAP Signavio Process Manager, process variants represent ... different perspectives on a main process.
For each variant, you define characteristics that differentiate it from its process template and from other variants.
These characteristics are implemented as dimensions (dictionary categories) and values (dictionary entries).
Feature Sets
For users who will be managing Variants, there are 2 main Feature Sets that need to be enabled, in the group they are a member of.
| Feature Set |
Description |
| Variant Management - Managing dimensions and values - Manage existing dimensions |
Can manage a diagram's existing dimensions. |
| Variant Management - Managing dimensions and values - Manage values for variant groups |
Can manage the values of a variant group. |
NOTE: In this context, manage means create & select.
Re: Overview of Feature Sets | SAP Help Portal
Dictionary Access Rights
Modelers have V, W, D access to Dictionary Categories that have Use for Variant Management enabled.
- V = View
- W = Write
- D = Delete
The Problem
How to restrict Modelers so that they can add Values to a Model, but not add Values to a Dimension?
With the above Feature Sets enable, and the Dictionary Access Rights granted, Modelers can add Values to a Model, and add Values to a Dimension.
(Reminder: dimensions (dictionary categories) and values (dictionary entries))
Resolution
For Dictionary Categories that have Use for Variant Management enabled, grant Modelers V (View) access only.
This means they cannot add values (dictionary entries) to a dimension (dictionary category), but still add (Dimension) Values to a model.
