3658137 - Workflow step approver displayed as Position Unavailable for positions with future dated validity

A position change in the job information is set up to trigger a workflow, wherein the newly assigned position has a future dated validity. 

The requirement is to trigger the workflow to a "Position Relationship" approver type. The workflow step is defined with Context as "Target", No Approver Behavior as "Stop the Workflow" and Relationship to Approver as "Employee Position".

In the workflow trigger pop-up, the workflow step approver (Position Relationship) is displayed as "Position Unavailable".

However, in case of positions with backdated validity, the workflow resolves the Position Relationship approver correctly. 

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Workflow

1. Navigate to the user's profile and insert a new record in job information with an effective date on or after the newly assigned position's effective start date.
2. Select the event and event reason as applicable and assign the position with future dated validity. 
3. Click on Save. 
4. The workflow trigger pop-up appears. 
5. The Position Relationship approver step appears as "Position Unavailable".
6. Now, change the position with backdated validity and insert a new record in job information to trigger the workflow.
7. The Position Relationship approver appears correctly in the workflow trigger pop-up.

Engineering team has confirmed that it is by design that the system does not resolve a position with future-dated validity as a valid approver in workflows.

Currently, there is no plan to enhance this behavior.

As a workaround, create positions with a back-dated validity to ensure the Position Relationship approver is resolved correctly. Alternatively, consider using a different approver type such as a Dynamic Role.
