3658146 - Smart Discovery Feature Unavailable for Live Data Connections in SAP Analytics Cloud

Challenges activating the SMART DISCOVERY feature in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) with SAP Datasphere systems.

SAP Analytics Cloud 2025.8.17  

1. Navigate to the SAC tenant.
2. Attempt to activate the SMART DISCOVERY feature for a model connected via a live data connection to SAP Datasphere.
3. Observe that the feature is unavailable or does not function as expected.

SMART DISCOVERY is not supported when using live data connections from SAP Datasphere in SAP Analytics Cloud, as documented in SAP Note: 2832606 -  Unsupported Features with SAP Cloud HANA Live Connections in SAP Analytics Cloud

Workaround 1: Import the Data Model

1. Import the data model from SAP Datasphere directly into SAP Analytics Cloud. This creates an acquired data model.

2. Build the story using the newly imported model.

3. The Smart Discovery feature will now be available for use.

 

Workaround 2: Use Smart Insights

As an alternative, utilize the Smart Insights feature, which is designed to work with live data connections and offers similar AI-driven capabilities.

• To ensure full functionality, use this feature within the Optimized Design Experience mode.
