Symptom
- Sorting on the first column of a table in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) behaves as expected.
- When attempting to sort on additional columns, the sort indicator changes but the row order does not update.
- Sorting on one column organizes rows alphabetically or numerically by that column.
- Adding a sort on another column applies sorting only within the groups created by the first sorted column, leading to a hierarchical sorting effect rather than a full table reordering.
Environment
- SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to the SAC story containing the table.
- Apply sorting to the first column → rows are reordered as expected.
- Apply sorting to a second column → the sort indicator updates, but the data rows are not fully reordered.
Cause
This behavior is by design in SAC tables. Sorting is controlled by the innermost column, resulting in hierarchical sorting when multiple sorts are applied
Resolution
- Clear existing sorts to reset the ordering and then re-apply the desired sort.
- Sorting works as expected when applied from right to left (outermost to innermost).
- For more details, refer to the official documentation: Sorting with Multiple Dimensions.
