Symptom
The following behaviors are observed in internal candidate profile:
- Instance has the following configuration:
- In Candidate Profile Template, background elements are included in sm-mapping.
- In Manage Recruiting Settings, the option "Revert to using Succession Data Model for permissions for sm-mapped fields" is enabled.
- In internal career site, candidate has the Add button. When clicked, the fields to enter data are not visible, like an empty/blank row is added.
- There's also no Delete icon on the side to delete the empty row.
- When clicking on Save button, the following error appears:

Reproducing the Issue
1. Go to internal candidate profile
2. Expand background section
3. Click on +Add button
4. Background fields are not visible, like a blank row is added. There's also no delete button to remove the empty row.
5. Click on Save button at the bottom of the screen. Error displays.
Cause
In Manage Recruiting Settings, the "Revert to using Succession Data Model for permissions for sm-mapped fields" is enabled. This means that permissions for the background fields included in sm-mapping will come from Succession Data Model or Manage Business Configuration.
In Manage Business Configuration, the E role is missing write permission.
Resolution
- Navigate to Admin Center > Manage Business Configuration
- Locate the background element (example: Work Experience)
- Click on Take Action > Make Correction
- Grant the E with write permission
