It is not possible to add a user field during the onboarding process for use in email notifications.

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding

1. Go to onboarding
2. Add new hire to onboarding
3. Complete review new hire data
4. Enter value into user field
5. See welcome email triggers with user ID rather than name

The string field is being passed and not user field. This is expected behaviour.

• As a workaround, you can use the job relationship fields rather than a custom user type field as that configuration is currently not supported.
