Symptom
The following error occurs when process a Sales Order:
Using business partner XYZ not permitted; status in master data Not Active
The error prevents the completion of the sales order and subsequent invoicing.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Sales Orders work center.
- Then go to the Sales Orders view.
- Select Show All Orders.
- Search for the affected sales order.
- Click Edit.
- Observe the error message: "Using business partner not permitted; status in master data Not Active."
Cause
The error message is occurring because the Business Partner was marked as inactive by the Data Protection and Privacy functionality. In some cases, the sales order is linked to an account ID in read-only mode, preventing updates to reflect the latest changes.
Resolution
This is the expected system behavior if the Business Partner is obsolete; the mentioned error message will appear.
In order to fix this error, please maintain the Business Partner active again by following the steps below:
- Go to the Information Lifecycle Management work center.
- Then go to the Business Partners view.
- Search for the required Business Partner ID.
- Click the link with the ID.
- Click View All.
- Change Status to Active.
If the business partner is already active and the error persists:
- Cancel the affected sales order.
- Recreate the sales order to ensure the latest changes are applied.
