3667170 - How Is the Exchange Rate Selected During Material Cost Estimate in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

When performing a material cost estimate in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, there is uncertainty regarding how the exchange rate is selected and applied. Users want to understand the logic behind the process.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

The exchange rate used during a material cost estimate is determined based on system-specific configuration and input values such as the Conversion Date and Exchange Rate Type.

Resolution

To understand how the exchange rate is determined during a material cost estimate, the following factors should be considered:

  1. Conversion Date:

    • The conversion date is automatically filled with the valuation date during the material cost estimate.
  2. Exchange Rate Type:

    • The system determines the exchange rate type for the cost estimate using the following steps:
      • Step 1: The exchange rate type is obtained from the Planning Category PLN. This is configured in the SSCUI 101970 - Maintain Category for Planning.
      • Step 2: If the exchange rate type cannot be determined using the Planning Category, a fallback exchange rate type P is used.
