3667501 - Excel cell reference formula does not populate correctly across columns in SAC Excel Add-in reports

Symptom

  • This issue occurs when the "Add Rows/Columns" function is used.
  • When using an external cell reference formula (e.g., =B8) in Table2 to reference values from Table1, the formula does not populate correctly across all row/column cells.
  • Instead of displaying the respective column values, all cells in the new row/column of Table2 display the same value from the referenced cell (e.g., =B8).

"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud, add-in for Microsoft Office

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open an Excel workbook containing two tables, Table1 and Table2, in the SAP Analytics Cloud Excel Add-in.
  2. Select a row in Table1 and use the "Add Rows/Columns" function.
  3. In the first cell of the new row, type an external reference formula (e.g., =B8).
  4. Observe that the formula populates correctly across columns (e.g., =B8, =C8, =D8, etc.).
  5. Select a row in Table2 and use the "Add Rows/Columns" function.
  6. In the first cell of the new row, type an external reference formula (e.g., =B8).
  7. Observe that the formula does not populate correctly across columns. Instead, all cells in the new row display the same value from the referenced cell (e.g., B8).

Cause

The external reference formula added to a new row in Table2 is treated as a single cell reference across all cells in the row, regardless of whether it is copied from Table1 or another range in Excel.

Resolution

As an alternative, use the formula =XLOOKUP() in the target cell.
