Symptom
When releasing a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) outbound delivery, the system throws one or more of the following error messages and the delivery cannot be released:
⦁ Serial number not tagged to any location; cannot be issued
⦁ Error while creating goods movement
⦁ Serial number cannot be issued, tagged to inventory management location
⦁ Serial number tagged to supply planning area; cannot be issued
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to Third Party Logistics / Outbound Logistics work center.
- Open the Outbound Deliveries view.
- Select All Outbound Deliveries by Selection.
- Search for the affected outbound delivery ID.
- Select the outbound delivery and click Release.
- The system raises serial number–related errors and the release fails.
Cause
- The issue occurs because the Ship-From Location maintained in the outbound delivery does not match the location where the serial number stock is currently tagged.
- Since serial-number-managed stock can only be issued from the location to which it is assigned, the system blocks the goods movement when there is a location mismatch.
Resolution
- Perform a stock transfer for the serial-number-managed product from the currently tagged location to the required Ship-From Location.
or - In the Sales Order, update the Ship-From Location to match the location where the serial number stock is already available.
