• Attempting to configure a Shortened Fiscal Year (August to XX) via the SSCUI "Maintain Fiscal Year Variants" does not display any option to define a Shortened Fiscal Year.
• Questions raised regarding whether the Shortened Fiscal Year functionality is supported or not in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Attempt to shift the fiscal year to August to XX by introducing a Shortened Fiscal Year.
2. Use the SSCUI "Maintain Fiscal Year Variants" to configure the Shortened Fiscal Year.
3. Observe that no option to define a Shortened Fiscal Year is available.

• Setting the fiscal year variant in the system is a one time event during the specify primary finance settings project as part of the scoping phase and this value cannot be changed after initial scoping:  
• Shortened Fiscal Year functionality is not supported in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

1. Confirm that the fiscal year variant is a one-time decision made during the Scope and Organizational Structure phase of system implementation and cannot be altered post-activation.
2. Acknowledge that Shortened Fiscal Year functionality is not supported in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
3. The fiscal year variant selected initially will apply to the entire system and can't be changed after it has been activated.

5. Proposed workaround:
   1. Use Fiscal Year Variant V9 (October–September) for all relevant ledgers.
   2. Treat the transition period (e.g. Jan–Sep or other stub period) outside the system migration scope.
   3. Load the closing balances of the legacy system as opening balances into S/4HANA Cloud in Period 04 (assuming Period 04 corresponds to the first period of the new reporting cycle you want to start in SAP).
   4. Keep detailed transaction history for the shortened period in the legacy system for audit and statutory reporting purposes.
