3669380 - Actual Time Gaps Not Preserved When Using Time Valuation “Aggregate Input Groups and Split” with Reverse Sign

When using the time valuation type “Aggregate Input Groups and Split” with reverse sign configured for one of the input time type groups, the calculation result does not preserve the actual gap between time periods. Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

There is a business requirement to deduct absence periods from scheduled working time in order to calculate the remaining gap time.

In this scenario, the time valuation type “Aggregate Input Groups and Split” was used with absence data configured as a reverse sign.

Example:

• Scheduled Working Time: 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM
• Absence: 01:00 PM – 04:00 PM

Expected result:

The overlapped period should be excluded, and the remaining gap periods should be:

• 08:00 AM – 01:00 PM
• 04:00 PM – 05:00 PM

Actual result:

• 11:00 AM – 05:00 PM

This behavior is expected for the “Aggregate Input Groups and Split” time valuation type. 

This valuation type does not consider the actual position of the time periods. Instead, it only aggregates the total duration values. The negative duration is deducted from the beginning of the positive input time segment.

In above example:

• Scheduled working time = 9 hours
• Absence = 3 hours
• Remaining result = 6 hours starting from 11:00 AM

Therefore, the system returns: 11:00 AM – 05:00 PM

To preserve the exact time gap based on the actual period, it is recommended to use the time valuation type “Deduct Group from Input Groups” instead.
