Symptom
• In the material cost estimate, differences are observed when comparing specific cost component values between the cost component view and the itemization view.
• The cost component view displays higher values compared to the itemization view.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
1. Open the material cost estimate result screen.
2. Compare the cost component values between the cost component view and the itemization view.
3. Observe the differences in values, where the cost component view is higher than the itemization view.
Cause
Cost Rollup from Lower-Level Components
The cost component view lists calculated costs across all production levels broken down into cost components and contains detailed information on cost origins, while itemization values always reflect the direct material and activity value.
The cost component view performs rollup calculations that aggregate costs from: Semi-finished goods with their own cost component splits and Lower-level components that have already been costed
The itemization view shows costs as individual line items without performing this multi-level rollup aggregation.
Resolution
This is standard system behavior.
To verify the calculation method:
1. In the material cost estimate result screen, expand all levels in the Costing Structure view.
2. Click the button in the middle "Materials Only/All Items" to include all items.
3. Change layout and include field Cost Element.
4. Click drop down button "Print preview of entire hierarchies".
5. In the result screen, navigate to: Menu → System → List → Save → Local File... → Spreadsheet.
6. Export the data to an Excel file.
7. Within the Excel file, manually calculate the sum of the individual cost component accounts.
You should be able to get the same amount of the cost component value shown in the header material level.
