3670078 - Error occurs when custom CDS views with parameters are imported into the remote table in SAP Datasphere

Symptom

When importing a CDS view with parameters from an ABAP remote source as a remote table in SAP Datasphere, an error occurs, for example:
  • internal error: Error occurred when reading data from entitySet [/ABAP_CDS/***]: org.apache.olingo.client.api.communication.ODataClientErrorException: {"error":{"code":"RSODP/040","message":"","@SAP__common.ExceptionCategory":"Provider_Application_Error","details":[{"code":"RSODP_ODATA/053","message":"Invalied filter, possibly wrong data type value. See long text.","@SAP__common.Severity":"error","@SAP__common.numericSeverity":4}],...}}

Environment

  • Datasphere
  • ABAP remote source connected via ABAPAdapter

Reproducing the Issue

  • Attempt to import a CDS view with parameters from an ABAP remote source as a remote table in SAP Datasphere, or
  • Open the imported remote table and click "Preview Data".

Cause

CDS views with parameters are not supported by ABAPAdapter (see 3347586 - Error: Column not allowed: "column_name" in select clause when selecting through the virtual table - SAP HANA Smart Data Integration). Since SAP Datasphere remote tables from ABAP source rely on ABAPAdapter internally, the same limitation applies.

Resolution

This is a known product limitation. Use a CDS view without parameters and import it into the remote table in SAP Datasphere.
