3671623 - Error "item 10: the team category of service team must be service" in service orders app - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Symptom

  • An error occurs in the organizational data section of the Service Orders app, where the system requests the Service team. When the service team is manually entered, the system displays the error: "Item 10: The team category of service team *ABCDEF must be SERVICE."
  • The issue is related to the automatic assignment of the service team in service orders, which is not functioning as expected despite the creation of custom responsibility definitions following scope item 1NJ.

*Where ABCDEF represents the Service Team name.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Follow scope item 1NJ and create custom responsibility definitions to automatically assign the service team in service orders.
  2. In the organizational data section of the Service Orders app, manually enter the service team.
  3. Observe the error message: "Item 10: The team category of service team ABCDEF must be SERVICE."

Resolution

The Service Team determination process in SAP is not designed to use the Functional Location ID as a trigger. Instead, it works based on the country/region and postal code of the Ship-To or Sold-To party in the service order header. Determination Logic:

If only one Service Team matches the customer’s location, the system assigns it automatically.
If multiple Service Teams match (as in your case), the system displays a pop-up and asks you to choose.

When Automatic Determination is Not Triggered:

The system will not re-determine a Service Team if one was entered manually or changed based on the assigned Service Employee.
However, you can enable Auto Redetermination in the Service Team profile if you want the system to re-check and assign teams even after manual changes.
