3671633 - "Timeout occurred while establishing the connection to an ABAP system. Remote system ... did not reply within 60 seconds" during RFC communication

While setting up an RFC connection, one of the following errors occurs on the RFC client side.

• Timeout occurred while establishing the connection to an ABAP system. Remote system accessed via destination XXX did not reply within 60 seconds.
• Timeout occurred while logging on to an ABAP system. Remote system [communication partner] did not reply within 60 seconds on handle [n/nnnnnnnn].

The errors in this document might occur in environments using RFC communication. For example:

• SAP Cloud Integration (LOD-HCI) wants to call RFC function modules in a backend ABAP system via SAP Cloud Connector.
• SAP Process Integration (BC-XI) wants to call RFC function modules via JCo.
• SAP Analytics Cloud (LOD-ANA) wants to call RFC function modules via JCo (SAP KBA 3131525).
• Any solution that uses JCo to call RFC function modules in a backend ABAP system (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW/4HANA).
• Other RFC clients that are implemented by Java and JCo.
