Symptom
This KBA provides guidance on how to use RF (Radio Frequency) devices in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition for warehouse operations. It includes key information, frequently encountered scenarios, and references to relevant SAP Notes.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Cause
The following topics are commonly addressed when working with RF functionality in cloud environments:
-
Testing and using RF features in cloud systems
-
Supported devices and browsers
-
Differences between the Test RF Environment app and productive RF usage
-
Requirements for app installation or device configuration
Resolution
1. How can RF functionality be used in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition?
RF functionality in the Public Edition is delivered via SAP Fiori app: Test RF Environment APP (for Quality system) and SAP GUI for HTML (for Production system using a dedicated URL).
2. What is the purpose of the “Test RF Environment” app?
This app is intended for testing purposes and personalization using Screen Personas (see also question 5), in Quality (Q) system, to simulate RF processes using a desktop browser. It is not designed for productive operations. For Productive use, RF screens must be accessed directly via the device browser.
3. Is it necessary to install any app on the device for RF usage?
No additional app installation or device-specific configuration is required. For RFUI logic transactions, there is no app provided on the device, and no other settings are needed. Just access the URL using an industry browser (see note 3340441).

4. Which devices and browsers are recommended for productive RF usage?
It is recommended to use industrial mobile devices (RF scanners). SAP GUI for HTML is the standard interface for RF in S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Please note: If those requirements are not met, usage of the RF environment on such old devices cannot be guaranteed.
5. Is it possible to customize RF screens or menus?
In the S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, custom RF menus or screens cannot be created. However, limited adaptations (e.g., changing field labels or adjusting layout) can be made using Adapt UI / SAP Screen Personas.

6. What are the best practices for testing RF processes?
-
Perform initial testing on PCs using the “Test RF Environment” app in quality systems.
-
Test productive scenarios on actual RF devices early in the project phase.
-
Ensure devices and browser compatibility, network performance, and user roles are validated before go-live.
➡️ Refer to Notes 3048632, 3364010, and 3340441 for full details.
Additional Information
-
The Test RF Environment app is very useful for creating and testing Screen Personas flavors before applying them to productive environments.
-
There is no need to configure ITS Mobile, maintain RFC connections, and also no Communication Arrangements need to be configured, as RF in the Public Edition runs entirely via SAP GUI for HTML.
-
It is the responsibility of the implementation team to verify device compatibility and connection stability before go-live.
