Symptom
- Scientific conversion of values in ‘Worker and Work Agreement’ CSV import template.
- When values are copied and pasted into certain fields (e.g., Bank Account, Telephone) within the Worker and Work Agreement CSV import template, saving and then reopening the file causes the data to automatically convert into scientific notation.
- As a result, when these scientific notation values are later copied into SAP, incorrect or unintended data is transferred.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
Reproducing the Issue
- Open Manage Workforce application.
- Download template from Import option 'Worker and Work Agreement'.
- Copy values from customer files into the CSV columns in 'Worker' CSV template for fields like BankAccount, Telephone etc.
- Save.
Cause
This conversion happens because Microsoft Excel automatically converts large numerical strings into scientific notation when saving the file in the CSV format. This is done to save space, but it converts the data into scientific notation for the SAP import.
Resolution
To prevent this from happening, follow the below steps:
- Format the required column in the CSV template as text (right click the column -> Select format cell’s -> Text).
- Copy values from customer files into the CSV column.
- Save the file.
- Import the file.
**Disclaimer: Follow the above steps each time you reopen the csv file. In future, importing of such scientific notations will be prevented by manage workforce validations.
