3675253 - Volume Unit is unexpectedly changed when updating product dimensions in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

One or more of the following issues in the product master data application:

• When modifying product dimensions (Length, Width, Height) or the dimension's unit of measure, the "Volume Unit" field (SMEINH-VOLEH) is automatically populated or changed to an unexpected value.
• The system appears to select a volume unit automatically, rather than retaining a previously entered unit or leaving the field blank for manual entry.

The expected behavior is for the Volume Unit field to remain unchanged unless directly modified.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open Create Material or Change Material app.
2. Search and open a product
3. Click on Edit
4. Click on Additional Data
5. Click on Unit of Measure
6. Enter or modify values for the Length, Width, and Height fields.
7. Press Enter or save the changes.
8. Observe that the "Volume Unit" field is automatically populated or changed by the system.

This is the standard system behavior.

The automatic determination of a volume unit of measure takes the first unit of measure belonging to the dimension (processed in alphanumerical order) into which the calculated volume can be converted without any rounding differences.

If a specific volume unit is not provided by the user in the "Volume Unit" field (SMEINH-VOLEH) before the calculation is triggered, the system chooses one automatically.
This can result in a different unit being selected each time depending on the dimension values.

To ensure a specific Volume Unit is used and to prevent the system from automatically selecting one, you must define the unit before the system performs the calculation.

Before saving changes to the Length, Width, or Height fields, manually enter the desired unit of measure (UoM) directly into the "Volume Unit" field.

This action forces the system to use your specified unit for its volume calculation, overriding the automatic determination logic.
