Resume downloaded from Mass Print or Save option (Legacy Applicant Workbench) or Download Documents (Latest Applicant Workbench) results in significantly larger file size compared to original resume uploaded.

SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Management

1. Open a candidate's application
2. Use this option to download just the resume (don't include other application/candidate data):
   • Legacy Applicant Workbench: Print or Save option
   • Latest Applicant Workbench: Download Documents
3. Compare the downloaded file's size to the original resume uploaded. If you don't have the originally uploaded resume, download the resume from:
   • Candidate Profile: Click on the resume and it will download
   • Job Application: Click Resume and then click on Save icon

Engineering confirmed that the significant increase in the downloaded file's size using Mass Print or Save option (Legacy Applicant Workbench) or Download Documents (Latest Applicant Workbench) is due to multiple conversion of resume happening in the background when using this feature.

When using Mass Print or Save / Download Documents in downloading resume (and other candidate/application data), the system converts the resume multiple times and add the candidate/application data in the final PDF file output.

First the originally uploaded resume (example: docx) is converted into image using DPS or MSV2 service (converting into image already increases the file size). Then the image is converted into html and then html into PDF using PD4ML library (converting to PDF increases again the file size).

Engineering Team is discussing on future enhancement on this conversion process to decrease the size of the output file. They're looking into removing the PDF conversion using PD4ML library. This means system will be directly converting any file type to PDF using MSV2 (this will be the only file conversion strategy going forward). Multiple conversion will be reduced, and document size will not be bigger compared to current behavior.

This is a future plan and there's no definite date yet when this enhancement will be rolled out.

This is the current system behavior on both Legacy Applicant Workbench (Mass Print or Save) and on Latest Applicant Workbench (Download Documents).

While enhancement is still in discussion and timeline is indefinite, follow the below workaround:

1. Don't include the resume in Mass Print or Save. Use Mass Print or Save to download other application/candidate data only.
2. Then, download the resume separately from Job Application or Candidate Profile.
