Symptom

Fields are enclosed within double quotes ("") when opening exported CSV file in .txt application for a table in story in SAC

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud 2025.14.17

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to SAC
  2. Open a story containing table widget.
  3. Export the table to CSV.
  4. Select comma as separators.
  5. Open the resulting file with notepad application.

Notice: All fields are enclosed within quotation mark

Cause

  • CSV files use quotes to encapsulate fields containing commas, line breaks, or special characters. This behavior ensures the integrity of the data within the file.
  • When opened in applications designed to handle CSV files, such as Excel or Numbers, these quotes are automatically processed and do not appear visibly to the user. 
  • However, when viewed in text editors like Notepad, the quotes are displayed as part of the raw text format.  

Resolution

This formatting is standard for CSV files and is essential for maintaining data structure. As such, it cannot be altered.

However, can follow the below workaround:

    1. Save the file in CSV format as usual.
    2. Open the CSV file in Excel. 
    3. Save it as a TXT file.
    4. Once the TXT file is opened in Notepad, you will notice that the double quotes are no longer present.
