Symptom
- A reset without reversal of a clearing journal entry in app 'Reset Cleared Items - FBRA' is attempted.
- It is not possible to proceed due to the exchange rate difference associated with the clearing journal entry.
Environment
- SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Attempt to reset cleared items in app 'Reset Cleared Items - FBRA'.
- A message appears "Exchange rate differences were posted, clearing journal entries will be reversed"
- Note that the system does not allow journal entry to be reset only due to exchange rate differences. It only gives option to reset & reverse the journal entry.
Cause
If a clearing journal entry has an involved an exchange rate difference, you cannot simply 'reset' the clearing without also reversing the original clearing document
If we only reset the clearing:
-
The initial exchange rate gain or loss would remain on the books.
-
When you clear the items again, the system would calculate and post the exchange rate gain/loss a second time.
-
This would result in the exchange gain/loss being recorded in your Profit & Loss statement twice—which is a not permitted.
Therefore, for accurate financial reporting, any reset of a clearing document that included an exchange rate difference must be accompanied by a reversal to correctly zero out the initial exchange rate posting.
Resolution
- It is not possible to only reset the clearing journal entry when exchange rate difference is posted.
- The document should be reversed simultaneously.
