3678402 - Automated Budget Calculation Error in Spot Awards - Rewards & Recognition

Symptom

The automated budget calculation for Spot Awards fails during execution with the error message “The system detected an internal error. Contact your system administrator,” occurring when using both business rules and dynamic groups.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
  • SAP SuccessFactors Reward & Recognition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in to the instance and open Reward and Recognition.

  2. Search for the target program.

  3. Go to the Budget tab.

  4. Make sure the following settings are configured correctly:

    • Budget hierarchy

    • Budget Holder

    • Selection criteria

    • Based on

  5. Click Calculate.

  6. Observe the error pop-up and capture a screenshot for reference.

Cause

The issue was caused by:

  • Missing edit permissions for "Spot Award Draft Budget Holder" and "Reward and Recognition Job Monitor" under "Miscellaneous Permissions" in "Manage Permission Roles." -> These permissions are necessary to run budget jobs. Without them, job execution fails, resulting in permission errors on the job monitor page.
  • Budget Drafts not being deleted from Spot Award Program under Manage Data -> Those are created when attempting to calculate budget when user does not have the above permissions, and that leads to the error message when trying to calculate.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Admin Center > Manage Permission Roles, then edit the relevant role.

  2. Under Miscellaneous Permissions, enable Edit access for both of the following:

    • Spot Award Draft Budget Holder

    • Reward and Recognition Job Monitor

  3. Save the changes.

  4. Then to clear the draft budget Go to Admin Center > Manage Data, select Spot Award Program, and open the affected program.

  5. Scroll to the bottom, delete all Budget Configurations that are as Draft, and click Save.

If the issue affects additional Spot Award Programs, repeat step 4 for each affected program.
