3679362 - Bridge application fails with JCO_ERROR_COMMUNICATION (CM_NO_DATA_RECEIVED) when connecting to SAP backend

Symptom

An SAP Java-based application intermittently fails to connect to an SAP ABAP backend system via RFC.

The following error is written in the default trace or application log:

com.sap.conn.jco.JCoException: (102) JCO_ERROR_COMMUNICATION:
Initialization of destination SAPBRIDGE_10_400 failed:
connection closed without message (CM_NO_DATA_RECEIVED)

Caused by: com.sap.conn.jco.JCoException: (102) JCO_ERROR_COMMUNICATION:
connection closed without message (CM_NO_DATA_RECEIVED)
(remote system is <empty>|10.182.18.208|10)

After restarting the Java application and/or the target backend system, the communication resumes normally.
