3681452 - ASE upgrade returns 'SAPSA user 'sapsa' failed to interact with the database (delete/insert)' due to sybmgmtdb error - SAP ASE for Business Suite

Symptom

  • Upgrade of an ASE for Business Suite fails with saphostctrl messages including:
    Error: Command execution failed : Failed to execute installmaster

    From LiveUpdate.log :

        TASK_NAME=UPDATE_ASE_POST_CONFIG
        UPDATE_ASE_POST_CONFIG=Failed to execute installmaster

        From dev_sapdbctrl:

        DESCRIPTION: Server message: Number 926, Severity 14, State 1, Line 35, Server SID --- Message string: Database 'sybmgmtdb' cannot be opened. An              earlier attempt at recovery marked it 'suspect'. Check the ASE errorlog for information as to the cause.  LAST OS-ERROR: (0) : Success
        DESCRIPTION: Server message: Number 926, Severity 14, State 1, Line 7, Server SID --- Message string: Database 'sybmgmtdb' cannot be opened.            An earlier attempt at recovery marked it 'suspect'. Check the ASE errorlog for information as to the cause.  LAST OS-ERROR: (0) : Success
        DESCRIPTION: SAPSA user 'sapsa' failed to interact with the database (delete/insert) LAST OS-ERROR: (0) : Success

  • From ASE error logs:
    00:0007:00000:00019:2025/11/09 05:15:45.29 server  Error: 15427, Severity: 16, State: 1
    00:0007:00000:00019:2025/11/09 05:15:45.29 server  The database 'sybmgmtdb' is currently offline and cannot be checked for encryption key references. The encryption key 'syb_xpskey' may be dropped.
