3684286 - Workflow administrator notifications are sent to the initiator instead of the designated administrator in workflows without general task classification or with deep container elements

Symptom

When a workflow instance encounters an error, the notification is expected to be sent to the workflow administrator as maintained by a rule in transaction SWDC_RUNTIME. However, in some workflows, the notification is instead sent to the workflow initiator (end user) rather than the designated administrator. This occurs even though an agent rule is assigned and can successfully determine a user when simulated.

Symptoms include:

  • Workflow administrator notifications are received by the workflow initiator instead of the person determined by the agent rule.
  • The rule for workflow administrator determination (maintained in SWDC_RUNTIME) returns the expected agent in simulation, but this agent does not receive error notifications in certain workflow scenarios.
  • The issue is observed in workflows lacking classification (not set as “General task”) or in workflows whose container contains elements based on deep structures (such as nested structures with string elements).
