3686313 - Data Loss After Changing Field Type in Custom Object

Symptom

A field in a custom MDF object was modified from one data type to another based on a client requirement. After this change, all previously stored data in that field is no longer visible in the system

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Change the data type of a field in a custom MDF object (for example, from String to Number).

  2. After saving the configuration, observe that all previously stored data in that field is no longer visible in the system.

Cause

When the data type of a field in a custom MDF object is changed (e.g., from String to Number), the system treats the field as a new definition. As a result, any existing data stored under the previous data type becomes invalid for the new structure.

Resolution

Once the data type has been changed, the previously stored data is deleted and cannot be restored.
