Symptom
The validation rule configured on the Manual Time Event object does not trigger an error in time sheet UI, even when the defined conditions are met. "Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Time Sheet
- SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking
Reproducing the Issue
- A validation rule is assigned to the Manual Time Event object, intended to raise an error when certain conditions are met (for example, when the Comment field is left empty).
- Create a manual time event in the time sheet with an empty comment.
- The system does not display the expected error; the time event is created successfully.
- Review the rule trace: the error condition is triggered in the trace, but the error message is not reflected in the time sheet UI.
Cause
The option “Enable Workflow Process for manual creation or deletion of Time Events” in Configure Clock In Clock Out is not enabled. Without this setting enabled, the system does not display the validation error in the Time Sheet UI.
Resolution
- Navigate to configure clock in clock in admin center.
- Under the settings section, enable the checkbox “Enable Workflow Process for manual creation or deletion of Time Events”, then save the configuration.
- Re-test the validation rule in the Time Sheet UI. The error message now displays correctly.
Note: Enabling this workflow process for time events will not trigger any workflow for creation or deletion unless a workflow rule is explicitly assigned.
