Symptom
- In Excel Version 2502, copying a SAP.GETDATA formula and pasting it using the "paste as value" function results in a pure value in the cell, allowing interaction with standard Excel functionality.
- In Excel Version 2505 and later, the behavior changes. Pasting the value using "paste as value" results in an object-like value that cannot be interacted with.
- Attempting to interact with the pasted value, such as performing a subtraction or adding a character, causes the value to disappear, leaving the cell empty.
- Using other paste options, such as "paste formula," works as expected and pastes the formula correctly.
- Pasting standard Excel formulas, such as SUM, as value works as expected and does not result in the object-like value.
- If a basic Excel formula like VLOOKUP references a cell containing the SAP.GETDATA formula, copying the VLOOKUP result and pasting it as value still produces the object-like value.
- Testing in Excel Online shows that the "paste as value" functionality works as expected, producing a flat number. However, opening the file in the desktop app results in the object-like value in Excel versions 2505 and later.
