3688775 - How to Make Business partner Grouping a Mandatory Field

Symptom

When creating a Business Partner without selecting BP Grouping, the grouping is updated automatically.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the 'Maintain Business Partner' or 'Manage Business Partner Master Data' app.
  2. Create a Business Partner without filling in the BP Grouping field.
  3. Observe that the BP Grouping is updated automatically.

Resolution

The Business Partner Grouping (BU_GROUP) field cannot be set as mandatory because it follows predefined system logic:

  • If no BP Grouping is chosen and no BP number is entered, the system automatically assigns the standard internal grouping.
  • If no BP Grouping is chosen but a BP number is manually entered, the system automatically assigns the standard external grouping
