3689417 - Incorrect activity type appears in production order although a different activity type is maintained in the Work Center

During production order creation, the system proposes an activity type that is different from the activity type maintained in the Work Center.

The expected activity type from the Work Center is not reflected in the routing or the production order.

Changing the activity type in the Work Center does not update the routing or the production order.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Maintain an activity type in a Work Center.
2. Create or display a routing (task list) that uses this Work Center.
3. Observe that the routing operation already contains activity types in the standard values section.
4. Create a production order using this routing.
5. Check the activity type in the production order; the system proposes an activity type that does not match the one maintained in the Work Center.

The Work Center contains a "Reference indicator" that controls whether the routing inherits values from the Work Center.

When the reference indicator is removed or not set, the routing becomes independent and retains its existing activity type values.

If activity types were already present in the routing operations before the reference indicator was removed, the system does not overwrite them with the Work Center activity type.

Therefore, the production order always copies the activity type from the routing, not from the Work Center.

Update the routing to ensure the correct activity type is assigned to each operation.

If the routing should inherit activity types from the Work Center, activate the reference indicator in the Work Center.

After changing the reference indicator, adjust the routing manually or use the Mass Replacement function, because existing routing values are not updated automatically.

Newly created production orders will correctly reflect the updated activity type once the routing and/or reference indicator are maintained consistently.
