Symptom
Automatic batch determination on delivery is not working when the storage location is WM-managed.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
-
Create an outbound delivery through the Create Outbound Delivery app.
-
Click on "Batch Split" button.
-
The automatic batch determination isn't triggered.
Cause
When the storage location is WM-managed, automatic batch determination will not perform as this is standard system behavior.
If the storage location is WM-managed, EWM is the upper system and should be in charge of batch/stock determination. Batch determination is controlled by EWM, not by the ERP delivery process. The system behave as follows:
- The ERP system does not perform batch determination during delivery creation.
- Instead, it passes the batch selection criteria (such as characteristics or condition records) to EWM, where the actual batch search and assignment occur.
- The batch is then reflected back to the delivery once the EWM batch determination is completed.
This means that automatic batch assignment in the ERP delivery itself is not possible for EWM-managed storage locations, the process must take place on the EWM side.
Resolution
This is standard system behavior that cannot be changed.
When making the batch determination on EWM side, if the same SD determination rules (like FIFO) need to be used, maintain an entry in configuration activity 104697 - Define Setting for Delivery - Warehouse Request.
