Symptom
Clarification is required regarding the logic used for plan cost calculation for customer project work packages in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Cause
A clear understanding of the cost calculation mechanism is necessary for accurate planning and analysis of customer project work packages.
Resolution
To verify the cost calculation:
- Open the Work Package tab in the Plan Customer Project app.
- Select the relevant work package and navigate to its details.
- Click on the pencil icon under the Effort section.
- Confirm the effort splitting details by period in the popup screen.
Cost Calculation Logic
- The cost calculation is executed for each period individually.
- If currency conversion is required, it is applied to each relevant period, respecting the specific exchange rate applicable for that period.
Example:
- The effort distribution spans period 11 and period 12.
- Effort details:
- Period 11: 105 hours
- Period 12: 106 hours
- The cost rate is maintained in Company Code Currency (EUR) as 100 EUR/Hour.
- Exchange rate details:
- Exchange rate type for planned data is P Rate.
- The exchange rate date is the first day of the respective period.
- In period 11, the exchange rate from EUR to USD is 0.8613.
- In period 12, the exchange rate from EUR to USD is 0.8575.
Cost Calculation
-
Period 11 Cost:
- Hourly rate: 100 EUR × 0.8613 USD/EUR = 86.13 USD/Hour
- Total cost: 86.13 USD/Hour × 105 hours = 9,043.65 USD
-
Period 12 Cost:
- Hourly rate: 100 EUR × 0.8575 USD/EUR = 85.75 USD/Hour
- Total cost: 85.75 USD/Hour × 106 hours = 9,089.50 USD
Total Cost for the Work Package:
9,043.65 USD + 9,089.50 USD = 18,133.15 USD
