3690065 - Error "SAP DBTech JDBC:[8]: invalid argument: host unknown or inactive." when opening Backup Consle in SAP HANA Studio

The following error occurs when attempting to open the Backup console in SAP HANA Studio:

Could not read backup log file of system xxx. Internal error'
SAP DBTech JDBC:[8]: invalid argument: host unknown or inactive.

The HANA Studio log file (.log, refer to KBA 2046508) contains the following error:

Further research reveals:

• "Configuration and Monitoring" -> "Open Administration" can open successfully.
• Monitoring view: M_BACKUP_CATALOG and M_BACKUP_SIZE_ESTIMATIONS are empty.
• indexserver trace does not contains any errors related to above monitoring views.
• backup.log does not contain any recent backup logs.
