Symptom

  • Slowness is reported in the production environment.
  • The issue is not limited to one story or model; multiple areas of SAP Analytics Cloud are impacted.
  • Many users, including administrators, are experiencing degraded performance.
  • Slowness is observed with the opening/editing of Import Model, Live data model, live connections, and Calendar API.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in to SAP Analytics Cloud Tenant.
  2. Access the model in the production or QA environment.
  3. Open the Calendar functionality or Modeler.
  4. Observe the slowness when performing standard operations such as navigating, opening models, or using Calendar features.

Cause

  • The slow system performance is caused by multiple calendar service requests (getMultiItems) that each take 4-7 seconds to complete. These requests are executed repeatedly, resulting in a high cumulative response time.
  • This behavior is amplified when a large number of events - particularly delayed, outdated, or irrelevant events, are loaded, or when the calendar is accessed in admin mode, which increases the data volume processed by the service.
  • The timeout behavior is a known limitation and is currently under consideration for future improvements. However, there is no confirmed delivery timeline at this time.

Resolution

Apply the following recommendations to mitigate performance issues:

  • Filter calendar events to limit the data retrieved to only relevant events. Excluding delayed or unnecessary events can significantly reduce load times.
  • Avoid using admin mode unless explicitly required. Switching to normal mode reduces the number of events loaded and improves performance.
  • Review event relevance and remove any outdated or unused events. If assistance is needed, the calendar team can help with event cleanup.

The timeout behavior is a known limitation and is currently under consideration for future improvements. However, there is no confirmed delivery timeline at this time.
