3690688 - Sorting order of workbook or Filter dialog is not functioning as expected in AO

Symptom

The sort order of workbooks under a role or the order of filter dialog on a dimension is not expected. For example, after installing AO 2.8 SP28, the sort order displays different than 2.8 SP15 when windows language is Japanese.
However, no change in sort order is observed when the operating system language is set to English.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in to AO with "JA" language as same as OS language.
  2. Open workbook from AO (Analysis-> Open workbook from SAP Business Warehouse Platform).
  3. Click "Role" tab.
  4. The sorting order of workbooks under a role folder does not displays as expected. For example, the sorting order shows different order in AO version 2.8 SP28 than 2.8 SP15.

Cause

The changed sorting behavior was caused by SAP Note 3360961 in which also the Open Dialog behavior was updated to have the same behavior in the Open Dialog and Filter Dialog. After this change (from 2.8 SP20), the sorting algorithm was adjusted to take regional settings of Windows into consideration and it now does use standard functionality of Microsofts .NET Framework to do character-based and culture-specific sorting of the strings (so switching between XJIS and Radical/Stroke sorting methods will have an impact how the .NET Framework will sort Japanese texts). Before that change was implemented a culture-invariant sorting method was used which wouldn't take an regional settings of Windows into consideration.

Resolution

After 2.8 SP 20 version, change regional settings in Windows: Region->Formats->Format(Select another language instead of English)->Change sorting method->Sorting->Select another value from drop list as per business requirement e.g. when Format is set to Japanese, change "Radical/Stroke" to "XJIS".
