Symptom

The "Save As" option is disabled (grayed out) in "View" mode for some ODE stories in SAP Analytics Cloud.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log in to the SAP Analytics Cloud system.
  2. Open an ODE story in "View" mode.
  3. Click on "File"
    >> Observe that the "Save As" option is grayed out.

Cause

  • The "Save As" option is disabled for some ODE stories when they contain "Composite Widgets" or "Story Popup" widgets.
  • The runtime formats for these advanced widgets differ from their design-time formats. Allowing "Save As" in "View" mode for such stories could result in corrupted or unusable stories.

Resolution

  • Remove "Composite Widgets" and "Story Popup" widgets from the affected stories; After removing these widgets, the "Save As" option becomes enabled in View mode.
  • Workaround: Use the "Copy To" option to create a new version of the story; This preserves the original story (avoiding the risk of corruption) and ensures the new copy uses the correct design-time formats for all widgets.
