Symptom
- In CDS View 'I_WITHHOLDINGTAXITEM', the field 'Withholding Tax Rate' displays a value of 0% for some documents.
"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Open the app "Customer Data Browser – Data Details".
- In the field for the data source, enter CDS View: I_WITHHOLDINGTAXITEM.
- Specify the Document Number of a payment document that clears an invoice where withholding tax was entered manually.
- Display the results and observe that the field WithholdingTaxPercent (Withholding Tax Rate) shows 0%.
Cause
All affected documents are payment documents that clear invoices where withholding tax (WHT) was entered manually.
Resolution
In SAP Extended Withholding Tax, this is standard system behavior:
- When WHT is entered manually on an invoice, the system does not store the WHT percentage in the FI document.
- Only the withholding tax code, base amount, and tax amount are saved.
- Because the document does not store an explicit rate, CDS View I_WITHHOLDINGTAXITEM reads the rate as 0%.
This behavior is by design and not an application error.
If the WHT percentage is required for reporting (e.g., a custom withholding tax certificate), the rate must be derived from WHT configuration.
Since FI documents do not store the percentage when manually entered, the CDS view cannot display it.
